“So I look like a bank/charity/millionaire to you? Sorry I don’t print money and I don't have the means etc etc etc”
I hear this A LOT in society nowadays and I hate it when people say anything along these lines. Why? How can someone/people actually say such horrible things, and actually mean it!? You might not have the means to help, but is there a need to place it in such extreme phrasing?
So does it mean that only charities can offer help and aid to the needy? Do people owe you a living? You, an individual, are not even going to attempt to help and just brush it off with a sweeping statement? The problem is that people contextualize too much. Context is important, but does everything have to be confined to their own small boxes of space?
Kindness is something that has taken a backseat, some argue that its because that’s the way humans are wired to be. Selfish and self-serving. But what kind of message, as humans, are we giving off then? We can’t and won’t help because there are other official institutions and organisations that can do so. Placing ourselves in a position so high up until we fail to see the needs of people around us have become the norm in a demanding, selfish society. What an absolutely wrong way of thinking, seriously. And no one seems to think that it is wrong in the slightest way?
What happened to giving from our hearts without expecting favors in return? Why place guilt on the needy for asking for help in the first place? You think if they weren't in dire straits, they would even approach you? Sometimes, we need to take a step back, get off our high horses and rethink about where our values have gone to.
